Auburn was formed out of parts of Minot and incorporated as a town on February 24, 1842, and as a city on February 22, 1869. Mills ran on water power from falls on the Androscoggin and the Little Androscoggin. Auburn and Lewiston have been the Twin Cities since the bridge across the river went up in 1823, and locals just say L-A.
