Set in the heart of the Willamette Valley along the Willamette River, Keizer is known as the Iris Capital of the World and holds a family-centered, park-loving community spirit, with riverside parks and Salem-Keizer Volcanoes baseball at Volcanoes Stadium.
Thomas Dove Keizur settled this bend of the Willamette in the 1840s, and the city that carries his name, respelled along the way, did not incorporate until 1982. Distance sessions fit a crowded calendar, since the one requirement is somewhere settled to sit. Everything for an attunement comes through digitally and stays in your keeping, for as long as you want it.
Thomas Dove Keizur and his wife Mary reached this stretch of the Willamette in mid-November 1843 after six months on the trail, twenty-three of them counting spouses and a brother-in-law. They wintered on the west bank, re-crossed in the spring of 1844 and claimed roughly twenty-seven hundred acres on the east side, which is most of the present city. Land grant documents from 1852 and 1853 spell the family name Keizer rather than Keizur, and that clerk's spelling is the one the community kept. Keizer did not become a city in its own right until Clear Lake joined it on November 2, 1982.
