Sisters is an Old West-styled arts town in Central Oregon, framed by the Three Sisters peaks and Deschutes National Forest, known for its outdoor quilt show and mountain trails. Its creative, high-desert setting invites reflective, nature-centered wellness.
McKenzie Pass closes under snow each winter and reopens by early summer, a rhythm that has shaped travel through this country for generations. Rodeo week in June fills every street in town. Reiki carries over the miles regardless, and essence blends post out from Michigan straight to your door.
Camp Polk lasted eight months, from September 1865 to May 1866, on Whychus Creek about three miles northeast of here; volunteers from Polk County came to protect miners and settlers and never fought anyone. Samuel M. Hindman homesteaded the abandoned site in 1870 and ran a store and post office there, and in 1888 the office moved three miles south to the John J. Smith store. The name proposed was Three Sisters, after the peaks west of town, and postal authorities cut it to Sisters. The 1880s storefronts along the main street are not survivals but policy: the city council wrote that style into its zoning ordinance in the early 1970s as the lumber economy gave way to visitors.
